Airmee, which is delivering for several of Sweden's largest e-retailers such as H&M, Apotea and the Bygghemma Group, has grown at a record pace and tripled the number of deliveries during 2020. To continue its growth, Airmee has raised in excess of €16 million in a heavily oversubscribed investment round. With the investment, Airmee will continue product development and the expansion to more cities in both Sweden and the Nordic region with its emission-free deliveries. The last-mile services have seen a sharp rise due to the e-commerce boom and the pandemic.
Airmee has had strong growth since the start in 2018 and is the fastest growing start-up company within the logistics industry. The €16 million funding round, which was completed in just three days, will be used for investments in continued product development of the technical platform, which optimizes and provides more sustainable deliveries, as well as for geographical expansion in Sweden and the Nordic countries.Part of the capital will also be used to buy out minority owners in the company.
”We are very pleased with the great interest in Airmee among investors, which shows how much we have achieved since our launch just three years ago”, says Julian Lee, founder and CEO of Airmee. “We have led the development of fast, emission-free home deliveries in the Swedish market with bicycles and electric cars and will continue to scale this up as well as our technical platform”.
Airmee has gone one step further than many competitors in its sustainability work and has for some time now delivered fully emission-free with mainly bicycles in large parts of Stockholm. The focus on sustainability and the market's fastest deliveries has led to many of the largest e-retailers in Sweden, such as H&M, Apotea and Bygghemma, to connect to Airmee's technology platform. During 2020, the number of deliveries has tripled. Many cities in Sweden and the Nordic countries are now included in the expansion plan, which is expected to contribute to strong continued growth.
”In 2021, all our deliveries will be fossil-free, and our goal is to deliver 100 percent emission-free next year. E-commerce has just begun its journey and consumer demands will rise rapidly. We will therefore also invest a lot in developing our products to always be at the forefront and raise the bar for what a perfect delivery experience means”, Julian Lee concludes.
Airmee was launched in 2018 and was based on an idea by Julian Lee to create the world's best delivery experience and at the same time optimize all logistics in cities to make it more efficient and environmentally friendly via a technical platform for transport. The company is unique because it connects e-retailers with logistics companies and consumers through its technical platform and does not own any of its transportation vehicles or employ any of the drivers. A large part of the business is managed by logistics companies and hauliers that use Airmee's technical platform to carry out the deliveries.
Airmee's algorithm, which is based on several years of research at KTH, enables the company to optimize millions of deliveries in real time and handle the processes from picking up packages at e-retailers to handing them over to the end consumer. This means that Airmee is relatively alone in the market in being able to deliver both small packages, larger goods, and groceries.
“The change in consumer behaviour that occurs with the growth of e-commerce places higher demands on the e-commerce logistics chain”, says Bo Mattsson, Chairman of the Board, and partner at J12 Ventures. “Airmee's unique offering with the market's best delivery experience and focus on sustainability gives e-retailers a powerful tool to grow their business”.
