The transportation sector accounts for the lion’s share of global energy consumption. Logistics is in urgent need of change. As a technological logistics platform powering environmentally sustainable delivery solutions, we aim to lead the green shift in logistics. This is why we set very ambitious sustainability goals:
Our technological platform enables real-time optimization of the carriers’ routes, ensuring higher efficiency and increased flexibility compared to traditional logistics providers. The system minimizes travel distances and travel time between stops. It further maximizes the usage of vehicle capacity, which lowers the number of vehicles needed for delivery.
We are constantly working on optimizing the vehicle types and fuels we use. Since October 2021, we require our carrier partners in Sweden and Norway to only use electric vehicles and cargo bikes, in combination with carbon-free fuels. We are also creating eco zones in urban areas to guarantee emission-free last mile, which we have accomplished in Stockholm so far, but will also establish in other cities going forward.
We additionally conduct carbon offsetting, i.e., we compensate for a certain amount of greenhouse gas emissions that we are not able or not yet able to reduce. This is important as a complementary measure, partly because the current conditions do not allow us to be fully carbon-neutral yet. Also, we will never be able to ensure that we are 100% emission-free or fossil-free because we cannot guarantee that our drivers do not need to refuel with fossil-based fuel in case of unforeseen circumstances.
We more than halved our total company-wide emissions compared to 2020 despite nearly 80% growth in volume
This is equivalent to a 73% reduction of CO2e emissions per parcel delivered compared to 2020
One Airmee delivery accounted for as much CO2e as one avocado in 2021 (in kgCO2e)
Carbon-free fuels used from Q4 2021 onwards
Over 40% emission-free deliveries since Q4 2021
Airmee is a proud signatory of The Climate Pledge as the first company in Sweden and the first last-mile delivery company in the world.
The Climate Pledge is a cross-sector community of companies and organizations, working together to crack the climate crisis and solve the challenges of decarbonizing our economy. Bringing together those that are prepared to run the furthest and fastest, The Climate Pledge calls on signatories to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040—10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement. Amazon co-founded the Climate Pledge with Global Optimism in 2019 and became the first signatory of the pledge.
Airmee collaborates with ZeroMission to climate compensate for all our activities, which includes both deliveries and in-house operations. For 2021 we have offset 100% of our emissions in the Yaeda-Eyasi Landscape REDD project in Tanzania and the CommuniTree Carbon Program in Nicaragua. The projects focus on forest conservation and reforestation while simultaneously creating income opportunities for local community members and farmers. We will offset our emissions for 2022 in the same projects.
Our vision is emission-free cities where customers can shop in a cleaner, more sustainable way and we are striving to make it a reality.
